Measuring your typing speed
I type at something like 104 word per minute (wpm) and that is pretty fast. I am defaulted in QWERTY layout although I can type in Dvoark. I found Dvoark a little complicated, and I’ve grew up with QWERTY so that is good enoguh for me. It has been said over the years that the QWERTY design was designed to slow people down as they were jaming the typewriters when they could not keep up with demand. This was done by spreading all the common keys into unnatural places, while Dvoark is suppost to base all of the common keys on one line. To be honest I really can’t get used to that, as can I not with these little controler pad keyboard things. As I said QWERTY is good enough for me.
Anyway, this blog post is about measuring the speed that you type, and to be able to type efficiently, swiftly, and with very few mistakes. I only use one space after a period as one again I have grew up with this and find it very difficult to change it, as it’s just became a habit. I end a sentence then hit the space bar once. Simple. I also touch type. It all takes practise.
However I have noticed some good sites for measuring your speed in QWERTY layout (although I suppose that you could also do it in Dvoark) are places like powertyping.com and their free test. I think that is the right URL. If it’s not please tell me.
Most typing tests will generate your speed in WPM and CPM (CPM meaning characters per minute and WPM meaning words per minute).
For more good typing speed tests please search Google.
