The pros and cons of using two monitors
I have recently been reading quite a few articles across the Internet which state it is much more easier and convenient to use two monitors on one personal computer instead of one. For example, it is easier to use more than one application, as one can be open on one monitor and the other one on the other monitor. It saves time because you don’t have to keep reaching for the taskbar to change the program, or the minimize button.
I have 2 desktop computers at my workstation however I would like to use the 19″ Dell monitor from my main machine, and my 17″ monitor from my other Advent machine on the desktop I use primarily.
To use the older monitor on the newer machine I would need a piece of equipment and I would need to do some small amount of configuration on the new machine.
I would first need a switch box, as my primary computer, as does many other computers, only has one port in which the monitor plug can go into. A switch box would give me the chance to have more than one port, as it the box it’s self can have ports for monitors, keyboards, mice and other computing utilities.
Of course, as I have mentioned above, using two monitors on one machine can save time, instead of keep flipping back and fourth from one application to another. You can have to applications running on two different monitors so only a glance is needed to see the other application, and this also minimizes the amount you need to use the mouse. If you just want to get on with something instead of keep going back and fourth from one program to another, you can just use one keyboard, one mouse, one machine but two monitors.
Obiously, to use two monitors you need to have two monitors, and if that isn’t simple enough for you it means, of course, that you can’t do this if you only have one monitor.
A con of using two monitors is if you are a person who cannot multitask, and can only do one thing at once, without paying attention to anything else, then this isn’t really for you.
I will be purchasing a switch box today, and I will let you all know what it’s like once I configure it all up.
